One of the main themes of the book is the friendship between Barnie and the other boys who join him at his new home, the Fashion Farm. Barnie, the orphan, is very lonely because of his mother’s death, and he loves making things with the animals in his new land. One of the things he loves is crossfit, which he sees as a physical competition between himself and other boys. Because of this, he is determined to join the Farm and compete in the competitions, but he also wants to help out others too, so he teaches the boys who come to him new techniques such as calisthenics and tractor tires.

After learning that the deceased woman’s husband had been the owner of a company called Covid-19, Barnie sets off on a journey to the facility. He meets up with other boys who share his interest in the sport. The entire group is dropped off into a facility called “Covid-19” where they are expected to become workers in a dairy barn. However, their leader tells them they will have free run of the grounds, and begin creating whatever they want there. Barnie sets off to find out more about the Dairy Farm. Along the way, he meets T-Bones, a boy who has a crush on Barnie, and who wants to join the team.

T-Bones wants to be one of the farmers, but is told that the job pays very little and would not be worth his time. Barnie’s younger sister tells him that they need to know where the money is coming from to keep the entire family fed, and that the sisters run the farm. In order to make the necessary arrangements for T-Bones and Barnie, who are hungry and thirsty for work, the coach decides that they will divide up the chores for the day. The three of them split up the grocery bills, and T-Bones and Barnie pick up the rest of the chores.

One task is to paint a fence, which is done quickly and flawlessly by Barnie’s older brother, Rocky. Another task is to build a trellis for the garden. T-Bones and Barnie fail to get the fence to stand up correctly, and Rocky adds a ladder and makes things much more difficult. When they try again, Barnie makes it look as easy as possible.

Eventually, the coach realizes that each boy needs a job, and calls them all into the barn. The boys help to feed the animals and clean the house. As they leave, T-Bones realizes that he can help in some way to raise money to buy the farm equipment they need. His ideas are taken seriously by the entire team. They successfully complete their tasks and earn extra spending cash.
